Case Study #1: Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune (India)

Partnering with Purdue NeXT

Objective: To offer campus students an International Certification in advanced engineering.

Courses Selected: Purdue NeXT (online interactive learning environment of Purdue University)

  • Mechanics of MEMS and NEMS

Development Costs: None

Integration: Faculty from VI integrated online videos/materials from Purdue into classroom discussion and course activities so that students benefited from an online/offline learning approach. Assessment was conducted by both institutions and upon completion, students earned credits from VI and a certificate from Purdue.

Results: The International Certification was offered to seniors in VI's Instrumentation Engineering Deparmtment. All 75 students signed up to gain expertience in international education and technical collaboration. Most of them said they were attracted by the Purdue name. The Purdue faculty was top-notch as the course structure offered a very different learning experience from their other courses. The students now have international credentials that distinguish them from their peers.

Case Study #1: Ho Chi Minh University (Vietnam)

Partnering with MacQuarie University 

Objective: To offer campus students English programs developed by internationally renowned universities

Courses Selected:

  • IELTS Online/Classroom Blend (MacQuarie University)

Integration: The different English courses were added to Ho Chi Minh University's on-campus English Academy.  Course providers conducted training for local teachers, who then utilized an online/classroom blended approach to deliver the courses.  In class, students participated in discussions, peer reviews, exams, and other exercises.  Outside of class, students watched videos online and completed interactive activities online.

Results: More than 1,000 students are on track to complete the IELTS program. Schools are looking to co-develop Business English and Academic English writing courses to better serve not only the student population but also the community at large.
